I have submitted my official proposal for further trials for Wolfsbane. I do not expect a wholly positive response, but here is to hoping that the necessity for this potion will be recognized.

Evolution seems to be failing us.

Well done, Severus! Your sample is more than acceptable, and I have no qualms utilizing your potion for this trial. I will send you some information shortly re: confidentiality agreements and etc.; on that note, I'm curious as to whether or not you would like to be present to observe the transformation? The patient is a young child, and it is his first. I would simply need to register you as an apprentice to myself and my attending healer.

Hello! I've (rather impressively) had a successful batch of Wolfsbane provided by one of the young people I mentioned before. I know it's only been a day but I thought I'd check in as to whether you'd spoken with the family yet about potentially observing the child's transformation? I also wanted to inquire after the specifics... where he'll be transforming, and etc.

Good evening! I'm writing you tonight with something of a check-in/proposal. There is potential for Wolfsbane to again be tested on this upcoming full moon cycle. If you wish to submit samples to me (providing you have/are at a point of attempting the potion), and they are properly done, I would be more than willing to utilize your brew(s) for this.

I would also like to let you both know that I am in the process of developing a proposal for the Ministry for further human trails re: cost effective measures and extended effects. Should it be accepted, and should your capabilities prove exceptional in brewing Wolfsbane, there will be opportunity for you both (as I will need two more potioneres) to join the team. I will reiterate, however, that your work must well exceed my expectations given the nature of the product. Your interest and support are very much appreciated, but it is skill that I ultimately need.

Thank you. Whomever you are and whatever specifically inspired you to do this.

Oh bother

Sometimes I cannot help but wonder if muggles don't have the right idea when in comes to writing utensils with the ink kept inside of them. My ink well just decorated my journal, desk, carpet, and the majority of my den wall.

Having read through Mr. Ted Tonk's entry earlier today (Octavius, you made a truly excellent point!), I confess myself absolutely baffled. I know that these prejudices exist in our world, and I have heard such slurs used against witches and wizards born to muggle parents, but knowledge of a history of discrimination doesn't really given me any information on why this behavior continues in spite of both evidence contrary to the basis of said belief, and common sense. Then again, so many believe werewolves to be incurable monsters beyond saving even in human form, and that those without an ability to perform magic are subhuman, so I am perhaps attempting to define something that is entirely inexplicable. Human beings are historically quick to label others, and to construct meanings for said labels that are not always factual. We are all far too eager to hate, and magic does not set us apart from the rest of humanity in that respect.

Perhaps unprovoked and unwarranted 'hate' is the key.

Hello! I thought I might inquire after your thoughts and progress with the Wolfsbane research? Additionally, I'd like to offer my brain for you to pick at your convenience, should you require any assistance!

[Severus Snape]

Good Afternoon, Mr Snape. I admit myself curious as to your progress/thoughts/opinions concerning the Wolfsbane research? Also, should you have any questions or queries, I'm happy and more than willing to offer my input.

[Amelia Bones]

Hello, Miss Bones. I am very sorry to hear of the predicament involving what has happened with your cats. Speaking as we do in politeness during times of grief oftentimes seems hollow, but I wanted to take a moment to offer you my sympathy, and to say that if there is anything I might be able to do to assist you in any way, please, do not hesitate to ask.

I don't doubt that many believe that there is no logical explanation for how those responsible for this operate (and that some would even say that there is no rationality in insanity), but still... Am I missing something in this? I'm sure that all the details have not been released to the public, but still, I have to ask: What does horrific mutilation, killing a child, and setting a fire with dark magic have to do with the fundamental beliefs of purism? I realize that there was no dark mark present, and that this may not even be a Death Eater attack, but...

Good grief.

My mother came to see me today and despite there quite obviously being no correlation between the phases of the moon and the behaviour of You-Know-Who's followers, she made a rather fitting assessment of the events of last night by saying, "It would seem that the full moon doesn't only bring out the worst in werewolves." This sort of fear-mongering is blatantly taking advantage of ingrained fears associated with purported 'dark creatures', especially given one behaviour is deliberate, versus werewolves, who have no control of themselves in animal form.

My mother was perhaps speaking without deeper implications, and more for sympathy for Keith Finnigan's family (and to whom I address my own condolences), but I can't help but point out that the more we are carefully manipulated by these people, the more quickly and easily the state of the world will (seemingly) grow more dire. Everything appears more terrifying and overwhelming when it is compounded and shoved in our faces.

Thomas Mann, a German, muggle novelist and Nobel Prize winner once very accurately stated:
"Time has no divisions to mark its passage, there is never a thunder-storm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire off pistols."
Being 'time' is a social construct, all we seemingly accomplish in 'ringing in the New Year' is to set ourselves resolutions that will likely be ignored, find an excuse to over-imbibe (just as my mother convinces herself that the Christmas season exists solely so she can over-indulge in chocolate truffles), and to pretend as though the typical distinction between two days is suddenly monumental. It is not as though the universe is suddenly expanding our willpower or increasing our capabilities.

Today we are just as able to quit smoking, lose weight, and become more organized as we were the day before, and perhaps even less so as the holiday season tends to send our daily habits and rituals through a loop. To successfully make a change we must a) wish to see that change, b) make it part of our day-to-day lives, and c) push ourselves to succeed regardless. The time (whether of day, week, month or year) is, for the most part, irrelevant.
